The Electricity Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has approved a 830 MW expansion at Galaxy Digital’s (NASDAQ: GLXY) Helios site following a large load interconnection study by the company, per a Galaxy press release.

Galaxy will tap AEP Texas Inc for the additional power, which brings Helios’ total approved and connected capacity to over 1.6 GW.

Galaxy purchased the former bitcoin mine from Argo Blockchain in December 2022 for roughly $65 million. Now, Galaxy is revamping Helios for AI workloads in its partnership with CoreWeave (NASDAQ: CRWV). Galaxy has inked a 15-year, $15 billion contract with the neocloud to deliver 800 MW of critical IT load to CoreWeave GPUs clusters to be hosted at Helios.

Galaxy said that construction for the first 133 MW tranche of CoreWeave’s hosting contract is underway, with delivery expected sometime in the first half of 2026.

Galaxy CEO Mike Novogratz noted that the expansion gives the company room to hunt for additional AI hosting deals.

“Securing this additional 830 MW approval from ERCOT is a watershed moment for Galaxy and affirms our position as an operator capable of executing hyperscale AI data center development,” he said.

“The demand for high-density, AI-ready data center capacity in Texas is unprecedented. With over 1.6 GW of power capacity now approved, we are exceptionally well-positioned to grow our program and provide the reliable power infrastructure that the world’s leading AI companies require.”
