Bitcoin manufacturer MicroBT released its newest WhatsMiners unit series, Monday the M70, targeting 12.5 J/TH efficiency. The announcement came at the Bitcoin MENA 2025 conference in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The manufacturer introduced three unit types, including air-cooled, hydro-cooled, and immersion-cooled models with efficiency ratings ranging from 12.5 J/TH to 14.5 J/TH.
The product launch comes amid a slump in mining economics, with Bitcoin’s hashprice falling to around $35 per PH/s per day, near historic lows.
The M70 series includes high-performance hydro-cooled units capable of exceeding 500 TH/s. The Whatsminer M73S+ hydro-cooled model lists a hashrate of 540 TH/s to 600 TH/s with an efficiency of 12.5 J/TH. This model operates with a power draw of 7,200 watts in normal mode and can scale to 10,000 watts in overclock mode. MicroBT listed the daily profit for the M73S+ at $10.64 under current market conditions.
The standard hydro-cooled M73S offers a hashrate between 500 TH/s and 552 TH/s with an efficiency of 13.5 J/TH. The base M73 model provides 470 TH/s to 526 TH/s at 14.5 J/TH. MicroBT also introduced the rack-style M79 hydro-cooled unit, designed for industrial-scale operations requiring higher density. The M79S delivers a hashrate of 930 TH/s to 1,040 TH/s with an efficiency of 13.5 J/TH.
The unit draws 14,000 watts in normal mode and up to 20,000 watts in overclock mode. The M79 base model offers 870 TH/s to 968 TH/s at 14.5 J/TH. The manufacturer pegged the daily profit for the M79S at $18.14.
The release also includes an air-cooled model for standard mining infrastructure. Dubbed the Whatsminer M72S, it produces 264 TH/s to 300 TH/s of hashrate with an efficiency of 13.5 J/TH. It consumes 4,000 watts in normal mode and 6,000 watts when overclocked. The M72 base model offers 246 TH/s to 278 TH/s at 14.5 J/TH.
The M70S air-cooled unit lists a hashrate of 226 TH/s to 258 TH/s with a power draw between 3,140 watts and 3,500 watts, resulting in an efficiency of 13.5 J/TH. The base M70 model delivers 214 TH/s to 236 TH/s at 14.5 J/TH. MicroBT indicated the daily profit for the M70S stands at $4.27.
Immersion-cooled options in the new series target operations utilizing liquid cooling tanks. The Whatsminer M76S+ leads this segment with a hashrate of 390 TH/s to 440 TH/s and an efficiency of 12.5 J/TH. The M76S offers 362 TH/s to 406 TH/s at 13.5 J/TH, while the base M76 provides 336 TH/s to 374 TH/s at 14.5 J/TH.
The M78 series provides higher hashrates for immersion setups. The M78S delivers 472 TH/s to 522 TH/s at 13.5 J/TH, with a power consumption of 7,000 watts in normal mode and 10,000 watts in overclock mode. The base M78 model lists 440 TH/s to 486 TH/s at 14.5 J/TH.
This release follows the October launch of the Avalon A16 series by competitor Canaan (Nasdaq: CAN). Canaan released the Avalon A16XP air-cooled model on October 28, listing a hashrate of 300 TH/s. The A16XP features a power efficiency of 12.8 J/TH.
Canaan’s air-cooled A16XP lists a lower efficiency rating of 12.8 J/TH compared to the 13.5 J/TH rating of the MicroBT air-cooled counterparts.
