Ark: Beyond Payments With Alex B

Alex B of Ark Labs explains where Ark picks up where on-chain and Lightning drops off. Alex demos their early work designing & testing an implementation of Ark (complete with a surprise sneak peek of their current wallet UI ‘Arcade’).

  • Ark can reduce interactivity by introducing a statechain like model (Ruben Somsen)
  • “Payments may be the tip of the iceberg for Ark” – if we consider that a significant amount of Bitcoin transaction demand is for non-payment uses cases, these emerging use cases could be replicated in an Ark, as it scales any UTXO model protocol.
  • Ark can scale any type of Bitcoin Script. It also allows “virtual rebalancing” of lightning channels through its vUTXO model. Lightning servers are good compliment to Ark node operators as they are both always online.
  • Ark can improve all of the other things on Bitcoin. An “intermediate layer” for everything.
